Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

GPS Tracking Solutions

1. Is this live tracking? Yes it is. Each unit we carry gives live updates and can be communicated with, which pricing includes the data plan.

2. What happens if there is no cell signal? The GPs units will constantly record all movement and activity. Once cell reception is received it will dump all the collected data and it will show in your reports and records without any missing activity.

3. How accurate is the GPS unit? The GPS units are accurate to within 6 ft of the vehicle.

4. Can I use my GPS unit anywhere? You can use it anywhere in the country. If you plan on going global we can also accomodate that but will need to program the GPS unit to report via satellite connection only.

5. Can I use any GPS unit for your system? Unfortunately not. To ensure reliable data collection and information we procure a high quality GPS unit that is calibrated to all our parameters to get the most accurate reporting and alerting information.

6. Can I use the same GPS units for any type of vehicle or asset? In some cases yes, if you only want location. Otherwise, each asset, vehicle and use case has specific GPS units that will work best for that given scenario. You would not want to use a solar unit for trailer tracking on a vehicle trying to collect driver behavior data.

7. Are there any long term contracts? If you purchase the hardware we are only month to month, unless you want a one year warranty we can do a 12- month agreement. Otherwise we offer 36 month agreements when you bundle the hardware + monitoring together.

8. How can GPS Tracking help with theft recovery and asset protection? Since it is live tracking, you can set alerts to notify yourself or staff if the vehicle or asset moves when it is not supposed to. You can set geo fences around project yards, employee homes, or anywhere and get alerted if your truck moves from your home at 2am. Keeping track of your valuable assets in real time will significantly lower the response time for theft.

Enhance security and reduce response time for theft by keeping track of your valuable assets in real time.

9. How fast do the GPS devices update? It depends, but most of the vehicle trackers update every 1-2 minutes and the asset trackers can vary from 2-15minute updates depending on the use case, device selected and intervals chosen.

10. Do I need professional Installation? Most of the GPS devices are simple plug and play units where you can set a tamper alert to notify staff if the device is messed with. If you want a more secure and incognito installation it will require some more work which can require installation. Whether you require it or not, we also offer installation guides and videos to help out.

Shipping Containers

1. What are shipping containers made of?

Shipping containers are made of high-grade corten steel. Corten steel is non-corrosive and rust-resistant. The containers are made to endure years of heavy use on the high-seas, often in the most brutal conditions. More info is available in our Buyer’s Guide.(edit or create own buyer guide)

2. I keep hearing that I’m doing “my part” with adaptive reuse and recycling. What is that?

Sure. Adaptive Reuse essentially means the reusing of a material, building or site for a purpose other than for which it was originally intended. Shipping containers were meant to transport cargo across oceans and great distances while keeping their contents safe. Once their use is up they can be repurposed in a multitude of different ways. Currently storage solutions and container homes are very popular examples of adaptive reuse and recycling so if you buy a container from us you are doing your part for mother nature.

3. Aside from converting used shipping containers into homes, what are some other uses for new or used shipping containers?

They are very versatile piece of equipment. Since shipping container boxes are so well made you can create nearly anything you can build from brick and mortar, you can make from a shipping container. Storage sheds, emergency shelters, Air BNB homes, work shops, paint shops, mobile stores, guest houses, swimming pools or the perfect massive composter; nearly any building project can utilize containers. Some use it for hunting lodges, remote storage and more! It is up to your creativity.

4. Are shipping containers subjected to or affected by condensation?

Any bare metal surfaces that are exposed to variations in temperature will develop condensation. Evidence has shown that corrugated metal is less affected by condensation especially in combination with certain types of condensation resistant paint. Condensation generally occurs when a container is positioned on ground that can become cold and damp, so it recommended to elevate the container when possible. Another option is to spray foam or insulate the container or purchase a repurposed reefer container with insulation built in. If you are storing valuables, it is recommended you keep them off the metal walls or ground.

5. What’s the best surface to place a storage container?

The answer depends on what your intended use is. Generally speaking though, your container should sit on a dry, even, hard surface. The weight of the container (5-8,500lbs) needs to be distributed to the corners. Concrete and asphalt are excellent choices. Alternatively, stone pavers, hard blocks of wood, even railroad ties or gravel can be placed in the corners to keep the container level and the weight evenly distributed. Highly suggested not to place it on bare dirt or grass as the moisture could negatively impact the quality of steel over the long term.

8. How many pallets can fit into a 20′ storage container?

If properly configured, about 10 standard (40”x48”x48”) pallets can fit into a 20′ shipping container. Also, approximately 22 standard (40”x48”x48”) pallets can fit into a 40′ shipping container, and approximately 24 standard (40”x48”x48”) pallets can fit into 40′ and 45′ hi-cube shipping containers.

6. I’ve heard you can turn shipping containers into homes. Is this possible and how do I get started?

Yes, it is possible and it’s being done every day. We are connected with many companies that specialize in the design and manufacture of shipping container homes and other structures. These companies do everything from simply designing buildings to full-on remodeling and construction! What you can turn a shipping container into is limited only by your imagination. If you’d like a list of companies to assist with your unique project, please contact us, we’d be happy to help for free.

10. What are the different types of containers?

There are many types of used and new containers. Each container size comes with several quality classes such as: AS-IS, Wind and Water Tight (WWT), Cargo Worthy (CW), One Trip/New. All our used containers are rated at least WWT or better. Unless you specifically request an AS-IS container, you will receive a WWT which includes a 1-year leak guarantee and 5-year structural warranty. On top of the different classes, you can also get specialty containers such as double doors, side open door, top open etc. Different sizes include: 10ft, 20ft, 40ft, 45ft, 53ft.

7. Do shipping containers require maintenance?

Shipping containers require very little maintenance because the steel work is very high quality. After all, they’re designed to carry expensive cargo securely over the high-seas multiple times. Containers of this type can expect a life span of over 50 years. The door hinges and locking bars may require a bit of oiling from time to time, but that’s about it. Once your container begins to age, you may need to keep up with painting the areas that have been dented or scratched, as they are prone to light rusting over long periods of time.

8. How secure are shipping containers?

Basic security is done by fitting a padlock onto the doors. This stops the “walk-by” or crimes of opportunity. But for a thief intent on getting in, the container can be modified and fit with a steel hasp or locking box across the two doors, at about chest height. This is basically a steel box that fits over the lock, making it difficult to tamper with. At this point, the only way to break in is with a blow-torch or steel grinding/cutting gear, which makes a lot of racket. We’ve also seen motion detectors for shipping containers and other high tech solutions if you’d like additional security.

9. Do I need city permission for a storage container?

Generally speaking, storage containers are considered temporary structures and don’t normally need permissions. But if you are considering using your container as a permanent attachment to your house (i.e. as an addition, etc.), then it’s always good to check with your local city planning commission.
